Being part Native American myself, I believe it's due to the fact that the white don't like to be reminded that we still exist despite everything they've tried to do to us.eradicate
Hitler used the way the Union solders treated the Indians, as an example for the death camps he build during WW2.
When Lincoln wrote the document setting the slaves free, he had on his desk a document trying to determine whether the Indians were even human of not. Columbus killed off at least two tribes, and killing and maiming thousands of others., so this nation setting aside a day called Columbus Day really goes against the grain with me.Because my Son wasn't wearing an American flag pin on his shirt at the plasma center in Wichita, Ks.the day after 9/11 he was told to go back were he came from. My son replied" We should have killed youso, and Sos when you landed on Plymouth Rock. That was the end of that little confrontation.

The lack of reference to Native Americans is shameful from the part of the country as a whole. Unfortunately, Native Americans make up one of the smaller portions of minorities. Amongst minorities the bigger groups like African Americans (to which I belong), Latinos, and Asians get the most exposure mainly due to the history of events like the end of segregation and the Civil Rights movement.

I believe that its because they were already here - not part of the melting pot that "came" here. Often those are the considerations when putting together a study of the "makeup" of America. I don't think that the fact that there may be fewer of them has anything to do with it, because while the numbers for individual tribes may be low, Native Americans lumped together as a single group far out number many of our other minorities.
