Ok the previous answer to this question I don't agree..

To answer your question. here it goes..

US is running in 2 bands technology the 1900mhz and the new 850mhz which is used by Cingular.

Cingular use both 1900/850
Tmobile use only 1900

Europe and Asia runs in 900/1800mhz

Cingular makes their phones with 850mhz which If you only have tri-band with 1900/1800/900 you will have weak signal with them.

So that makes the quad band better..

Tri-band and quad-band phones are different. A lot of the older systems in the U.S. operate on 850 Mhz(which triband will not support), the newer ones are 1800 Mhz, 900 and 1800 Mhz (Both Quad band and Tri band will support) are used in other parts of the world.
If you want the best guarantee of coverage everywhere go with a quad-band phone, it will ensure that you will be able to use your phone on older systems that haven't yet been upgraded to 1800 Mhz
