Why do they call it soccer?

Because NFL American Football is the best and much more exciting?

Association football was the name in England. Soccer became the slang word which we adopted for it here.

a Young boy from the 1700's was sitting on a Field feeling lonely. a girl came up to him and started making fun of him and her best friend came along and started doing the same. the boy was feeling bad already and they were making it sooo much worse. the boy was bottling up all of his anger and then finally burst. he pulled up a big clump of dirt and shoved it in one of the girl's mouth and kicked the shins of the other. then he stomped off. So the evolution has made a lot of changes and the 2 girls became the goals, the clump of dirt became the ball, and the boy became the players. But they are still kicking them in the shins. And if u think about it the word soccer sods a lot like sock-her. Funny, isent it?

Because the united states football association did not wanted their football to be called handball. Commercially, they wantedto keep it football. To be honest with you i hate it that US dimisnishes the value of Futbol by calling it soccer. One more thing, US wants to give to women what it has for ages inherently been a male sport. At list Futbol players do not die of complications of sleep apnea. They are not fat, they are lean and therefore they can sleep better at night, and live longer. Futbol, football, is what it is known by the rest of the world, except in the US. We will prevail.

They don't. They call it football. The US and Canada are the main countries that refer to it as soccer. Unless you live in South Florida or any other predominantly hispanic part of the country where they still call it football.

The name is evolved from Sock Her which was a game where teams of eleven men chased a young maiden around and tried to put o sock on her bare foot without using their hands. After a few years the young maiden was replaced with a ball

if anything, NFL american football should be called soccer, and soccer should be call football in the U.S.A. cause u can only use ur feet.

Know what...I really don't know! I think it's really dumb though! they should just call football rugby and soccer football....it'd be a lot easier to relate to other countries if they did that.
