The first asteroid was discovered in 1801 by Giuseppe Piazzi in an observatory in Sicily. This is still the largest known asteroid today. He named it Ceres, after the Sicilian goddess of grain. Three others were discovered in the next few years (Pallas, Vesta, and Juno)

The main asteroid belt is a region of the solar system between t Mars and Jupiter where the greatest concentration of asteroid orbits can be found and theroy has it they were prevented from forming a planet by the gravitational force of Jupiter

asteroids r discovered when they came into the orbits of neptune & urenus & deviating the path of those planets the spectral lines of the sunlight r in the colour of yellow & green mixed with red showing that the chemical property of sand and dust particle s of peculiar chamical so the scientist thought that it must blike the planets & they r named as asteorids in the year 1789 {like that in arond 18th century}
