There are several ways to prevent mosquitoes from biting your guests
Avoid Bannanas during the mosquito season: Bannanas produce a scent that mosquitoes go ape over
Avoid sugary drinks because they also attract mosquitoes
Serve up citrus. Despite being sweet, citrus does not attract mosquitoes and in fact repels them
Garlic also deters those vampires
Use essential oils' catnip and rosemary;
Last year, several members of the Iowa State University Department of Entomology presented the results of a study on common catnip. Among their conclusions was the fact that an essential oil in catnip is 10 times more effective at repelling mosquitoes than potent chemicals such as DEET.

Shop around for the best buy
I would add lavender to the oil for a good aroma

Eliminate standing water in your community or at least in your neighborhood:A couple of drops of Citronella Oil, Neem Oil, or Catnip will prevent eggs from hatching.
Recycle and dispose of old tires and other containers where mosquitoes breed
Avoid having your barbeque in the hour after dawn and the hour before dawn. Over 80% of bites occur when the temperature is perfect for breeding in the hour after sunrise and one hour before sunset.

For out-of-doors, I would use, like, Raid (or another) burning spiral - it produces smoke and keeps most of the mosquitos away. About natural repellents... I thought vinegar is supposed to work, but... I sort of think few of your guests will subject themselves to drenching in _that_, natural, more or less, as it is.

You can get citronella and mix it with olive oil - this can be applied to the skin as a direct repellent or burned in an oil burner to discourage the little biters...
Natural and environmentally friendly.

My mom gets devoured by mosquitos usually she swears by this. 1 capful nasty listerine (original flavor) 1 capful LEMON dish soap mixed in a 12 oz squirter bottle fill with water and spray around your yard and lawn. Then hang citronella plants around and rub the leaves once in awhile to get the scent circulating.
hope they work

Citronella. And I believe that they make something that you put on the table, in the middle, and for 20 ft out the mosquitoes stay away

a certain kind of plant/tree keeps mosquitoes away...I think they are called neem tree...maybe if you can have several in your garden that will keep the mosquitoes away....
another way is to just wear trousers....seems that mosquitoes bites the legs more so than arms and face....
or you can keep your guests under mosquito nets......very tropical too.... :D

I`m not joking with this answer, but alcohol keeps them away better than anything. As you sweat alcohol is released through the pores in tiny ammounts and they can´t stand it, There´s always beer at a barbecue.

You can buy special candles to keep them away.
Actually I've heard that the best thing is nicotine so if you or any of your friend are heavy smokers you might not need anything!
