The saying goes, "Fear only fear itself." Fear is like a magnet to failure. Sounds so simple, but the human brain is complex.

I used to fear dancing because I was very self-conscious. I finally tried dancing after a friend told me that the world could care less about me and how I dance. He asked, "Are you so self-centered that you think you are the main attraction?" The other motivation was the woman that wanted to dance with me, well, she was worth the effort.

Maybe age has done something to me, but I don't really fear much of anything, except maybe apprehension of the unknown. I try not to mistake common sense with fear. Would I attack a Bengal Tiger with my bare hands, duh? It is not that I fear the tiger, it is that I respect it's strengths and common sense tells me I would not expect a good outcome.

I am not so concerned that people may laugh at me. If I fail at something or an attempt to do something makes a spectacle of me, and people laugh; well, the worst thing I've done is relieve some of there stress and triggered some happy little endorphins in their brains.

If I fear anything, it would be to fail to do something or accomplish something because I never tried. If I try and fail, then at least I won't look back and say, maybe I could have, but will never know; and in the process, I might learn something from the first try to increase my chances of success with a subsequent effort.

Don't confuse fear with caution, respect or common sense. Learn to recognize when it is time to make a "leap of faith". Learn the lessons of childhood. How many times does one fret and worry about doing something that must be done because one is afraid of the consequences; only to find that it wasn't so bad after all compared to what one suffered in turmoil as they put off the inevitable due to fear?

There is another type of fear that is a valid response to some situations. This is to do with the "flight or fight" response. This may be a natural instinct. We do, however, have the cognitive abilities to modify our primordial response to a situation.

I'm the author of the bestselling book What Would You Do If You Had No Fear? Living your dreams while quakin' in your boots. A top fear? Looking foolish. Top three answers to the question? 1. Quit my job, 2. Travel, 3. Fall in Love. Seek responses for my next book: What would you do if you could start over?

Heh, being fearless is like a utopia. Its nice, but impossible. See in everyones mind there is a fear central, and no matter WHAT there is something they fear. People who claim they are fearless are merely cowards who hide thier fear, then it builds up and they have a break down. If i were fearless I'd find something scary before I go crazy and shoot myself.

There is a no such person called "fearless" on planet earth. Only a stupid can be fearless. Each one of us has our own fears for various things. Its how we manage it is what differentiates.

Fear of failure and hence hesitation to do the task in one of the most prevalent fears. A small amount of that is needed to succeed in tasks. However, we shouldn't allow it to overwhelm us and thus affect the task itself.
