I was wondering whether it is worth purchasing. Does it work effectively without causing other problems to the computer? If not, which one would you recommend.

No I don't believe its worth it. all of the programs below are recommended by the University of Harvard Computer Science Division and all I use. AND THEY ARE FREE.

I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows and the following software Updated)

The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)
The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (www.spybot.info)
AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)
AND Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.info/kb/)
The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.

These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.

The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan's, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)

I have Norton Security. I started off with Mcafee and they suck. I got a virus and I couldn't get rid of it. I haven't had any problems with Norton Security. It's kind of expensive, but it is well worth it. They block it before it infects your computer and warns when you have a any potential problems. Norton is highly recommended. You also need to have spybot and adaware. You can go on the site and download these for free. Keep them updated and run a scan at least once or twice a week.

I had Norton security for about a year, but I didnt like it very much. The updates were not frequent and it prevented me from installing certain programs and I had to fiddle around with the settings all the time since the firewall was too sensitive.

I have used Mcafee Security Suite for about 3 years and I love it! It is the same price as Norton Security. It includes Spamkiller, Anti-viirus, Privacy, and Firewall. Its very easy to use and I get an update every week, sometimes more.

I dislike the free ones. They are free for a reason. Its up to you if you want to use a free version, but I dislike them. AVG and Avast are good for quick fixes, but in the long run, they suck.

I used Norton for a couple of years but now I use "Avast" Its Free and a lot smaller and faster. You can probably find it at www.downloads.com or do a search and you will have to register, which is no big deal before 30 days are up and every year after. I recommend it as one of the best and free helps too.

Norton Antivrus is great. I haven't had any problems since I started using it about 5 years...I switched from McAfee (which I did not care for much by the way).

No. No no no no no.

There is better, less resource-demanding protection software, most of it FREE.

For AntiVirus, try AVG, Avast, NOD32 etc.
Firewalls are free from ZoneAlarm and others. Sygate used to have a great free one, but they got bought up by Symantec and stopped.
AntiSpyware is generally free, such as Spybot, Adaware SE etc.

Like Hitler suggested, the perfect safe practices is to kill each and everything. in accordance to that theory, you would possibly want to delete each and everything on your computer except for the "strong" information like wealthy textual content documents, or something with the prefix "wealthy" in it. because, all of us understand it extremely is the perfect. If all else fails, unplug your internet quickly after setting up a application referred to as trojan-firewall, which blocks each and each and every of the viruses that ought to result your new computer.
