I just bought a Subaru Forester last month. When the Outback and the Forester are side-by-side it's amazing the similarities. The obvious differences are that the Outback is a tiny bit longer from front to back, a tiny bit shorter from top to bottom, and maybe a very tiny bit wider from side to side. The Subaru salesman told me that the Forester is in the Small SUV category and the Outback was in the Wagon category. To me it seems taller than most wagons out there. To look at it, it seems like a small SUV. Either way it's a nice car...Unless you're really tall then the extra height of the Forester is better.

Actually, most of the Subaru models use the same chassis. The Outback uses a beefed up Legacy chassis....a sedan in that sense, but it is a wagon. Subaru uses almost all of the same setups in all vehicles. The tribecca has a 6 cyl. but it's pretty much the 4 cyl with an extra 2 on the end. In my opinion, the best vehicles made. My 92 Legacy has the old 2.2 (no longer made, but the very best engine they had) and it has 205K on it and never a bolt removed from the engine. Except for the timing belt cover. Still the same water pump, alternator, all of it. I have 100K on the plugs and just clean them every year. It's great. The only problem I've had is out of the wheel bearings...you HAVE to use molly grease or it won't circulate and you'll wear your bearings out fast.

The Subaru Outback is an All Wheel Drive station wagon. They are a great looking vehicle and with the sports package option they go like the clappers.

There is an Outback Sedan and an Outback Wagon. Due to the design characteristics you can title them as a truck.
