What is your application, on road, off road, street or track? Twin shocks or mono shock? Mono shock can give smoother ride as the shock is mounted lower in the frame giving greater wheel travel, better strength and rigidity (no stresses on the rear subframe). The main advantages of single shock suspension single sided swing arm to the norm are lower sprung weight, greater torsional strength and rigidity.

It has more to do with the quality of the componenets and the design (engineeering) than the style of suspension. Both types are fine if properly designed. A mono-shock system usually weighs less, so that is an advantage.

I have a different take on them.

Single shock systems have the advantage of linkages so they can have a rising rate and more adjustablity.

Single sided swingarms though really aren't lighter, as they are built typically twice as large or more as each swingarm of a regular dual swingarm setup. They aren't stronger either, to do that they would have to become really huge and heavy. They really offer one advantage in racing, they make it quicker to change the back tire. Ducati's system is there for that, and they found it provided additional room to route the exhaust.
