You're going to need a law degree (Juris Doctor/JD). This means a successful undergraduate career at an accredited college/university. With your interests, I suggest a major in sociology or psychology with an emphasis on social work. As you're headed to law school, don't neglect your logic courses.
In the spring of your junior year, sit for the LSATs. To get into a halfway decent law school you need to score at least 155. If you're looking to work in Missouri, I would suggest looking at law schools in the state (Washington University in St. Louis is has a fine program) or in the surrounding areas.
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "practicing social worker". If you're looking to be the person who places foster children in homes and keeps up on them, you don't want to be a lawyer, but you will need a Masters in Social Work. There are very few people with both a JD and MSW as there are very few jobs that require one to perform duties that need both qualifications. But there's plenty of legal services needed by those people who need social workers. Look for employment in Missouri's Department of Social Services or at District Attorney's offices.

I actual have a Masters degree in social paintings, and that i've got labored interior the occupation for virtually 5 years. The social paintings occupation is a distinctive field which permits you to serve the deprived and under served populations. there are a number of stereo varieties with regard to the sector of social paintings, yet those stereo varieties are many times based upon someones loss of understanding of the occupation. There are categories of social paintings, and you're able to truly do slightly examine in each and every area, alongside with working with the homeless, baby welfare, education,or HIV contaminated, etc. Volunteering for a human service company like at a take care of, wellness facility, or nursing living house supplies you you some good exposure, and help you're making a determination if social paintings is a field you desire to pursue. desire this helps, good luck
