downloading of songs is not free for copyright-protected songs.
So they can sell it like they sell compact discs.
Some artist give "away" free songs from time to time, to gain more publicity, mostly bands that have just started or sometimes as a promotional action for the launch of a new cd/dvd/... etc.
You can check the websites of your favourite bands or record labels to find out whether they offer free downloads also.

Hey see, When you are watching TV, all the Serials & Movies are free to watch, there you are not supposed to pay any charges direct to the Channel.They show their all the channel programs free ,Because they don't expected money from you ,They already get from Sponsers who giving their Product's Advertisements.....
You don't think more about that free downloading songs because there are so many Addvertises with it,......& that product's details can spread through Internet ,
That's Why Mostly Songs are Free............

The company that is advertising in the adware and spyware pays them to include it in the installation of the P2P software. that is why they say you steal when you download songs, the only way the band gets paid is if you go to their concerts or buy the cd
