There are seven offences for which a player can be cautioned: is guilty of unsporting behaviour shows dissent by word or action persistently infringes the laws of the game delays the restart of play fails to respect the required distance when play is restarted by a corner or free kick enters or re enters the field of play without the referees permission leaves the field of play without the referees permission. There are also 7 offences for which a player can be sent off (red card): Guilty of serious foul play guilty of violent conduct spits at an opponent or any other person denies the opposing team a goal or obvious goal scoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball ( this does not apply to the goal keeper within the penalty area) denies an obvious goal scoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the players goal, by an offence punishable by a free kick or penalty kick. uses offensive or insulting or abusive language and/or gestures receives a second caution. there are no other card colours. When a player is being cautioned he will have his name taken by the referee, show the yellow card and be warned of his future conduct. The same applies to a red card although he will be asked to leave the field of play rather than be warned of future conduct.
