Partially shared values - Israel is one of the few democracies in the Middle East, and is a major military power as well.
Israel is also one of the world's centres for research and development.
Almost all computer processors since the 386 have been designed in Israel.
The number of scientific personel per thousand population is something like 20 times that of any other country. Universities like the Weisman Institute are among the most significant medical research centres in the world, pioneering genetic based medicines etc etc.
The NASDAQ lists a huge number of Israeli companies - more so than any other foreign nation. And there are nearly as many hi tech and biotech startups in Israel (with a population of about 6 million) as in the entire US (with a population of nearly 300 million).
Basically Israel is the main reason the US has a scientific lead over Japan and China.

In 1948, through mass killings and terror, Zionist forces armed by the Pentagon forced 750,000 Palestinians from their villages and cities. The country of Palestine was erased from the map, and Israel took its place.
Palestinian refugee tent camps spread throughout the Arab world. There was no sanitation, no protection from the environment, no medical care, no schools.
In 1967 Israel again struck out, seized more Arab land, and forced 400,000 more Palestinians out of their homes.
In 1972, the Israeli Prime Minister was Golda Meir, an American school teacher from Milwaukee. She emigrated to Israel under the “Right of Return,” which states that any Jewish person can automatically become a citizen of Israel. But the Palestinians who lived there for centuries cannot return. Golda Meir’s most telling statement was, “There is no such thing as the Palestinian people.”

Because:
1- Israel is an extension of the States. So America in fact defends itself.
2- if America claims being the watchguard of the world, then she has to defend this oppressed member of the UN.
3- And if America preaches democracy and liberty, then she has to defend the "only" democratic and liberal state in the region.
4- Can the world be too small to contain such people as Israel? If so, America has to stretch the world large enough for Israel to live.

Because the Israelis have a superior spy network and they give us valuable information. Of course other than that I feel we should mind out own damn business. Israel has been flexing it's muscle every since the US helped them form their little country after the war.
Israel contributes nothing more than information to the international community. They're doing all this killing over a couple of allegedly kidnapped soldiers.
I see a huge war coming. They're messing with Palestine and Lebanon which means more Arab nations will get involved. No way in hell am I going to let my kids in the military to defend the stink butt Israelis.

Jews in Florida and their contributions to political parties. Have you been to DC? Drive around the suburbs and count all the synagogues. You can even see many Jewish bumper stickers now.
Also you have the 'I can't wait until Christ returns' Christians who think that having Israel in existence will expedite the return of their savior. Kind of scary.
I remember seeing a documentary about a very rich one in Texas that got an idea that once oil is found in Israel, the apocalypse is not far away. So what does he do, he goes drilling all over in Israel for oil!

Some history lesson to some of you who tend to play forgetful, the Israelis are aliens who systematically emigrated from all around the world to Palestine and forced out the aboriginal inhabitants of colonial Palestine into diaspora. Do some reading about treaties and promises made by the allies to the Zionist Jews of Europe after fighting on their side in WWII.
Back to part of the question:
Supporting Israel is the "smart" decision taken by most American politicians to secure their place and career in the Senate or house of reps. That's evident when AIPAC is called on in as "experts" to testify about troubles in Palestine and to further push its own Zionist agenda. It doesn't matter if it were about the Democrats or Republicans, they always come together about blindly supporting Israel lest they lose big money and power connections. Whoever dare saying the facts as they are will be met by loads of blackmailing and everyone will cry: Antisemitism; despite the irrevelence.
Fighting back the oppression and daily humiliation and apartheid conducted by the purist Jewish state against Palestians is legal and legitimate resistance even if all the world cried TERRORISM to appease the Zionist American empire.

It's quite simple really. Israel is run by Jews. The US is also run by Jews. Hence the everlasting mutual support.

i have been asking myself this questions for a few years...my thoughts...seems unrealistic to me that the government of a country that established itself by killing off the original residents (american indians) and then importing foreigners (africans) from overseas for the purposes of slavery....could possibly be an intellectual and objective influence on world peace...i am not an Israeli sympathizer nor a middle eastern sympathizer, just your average american mutt who is questioning "what the ##%$!@ is going on in the world??” has everyone lost their #$%&!!! minds... hey george....not that i don't like you.. i'm just concerned that a person w/ the same level of intelligence as myself is actually running our country.
