I have a friend who drinks at least 2 bottles of rum every week, sometimes 3 or 4. He also drinks about 4 can of beers per week, sometimes more like 8.
Im at his house right now cause im visiting him for vacations but it hurt me to see him like that and when he is drunk he starts to act really silly, he told me that he used to drink 1 bottle of rum every day but know he drinks less, still im worry about him.

How can i let him know that he should drink even less or not at all, i know he has some personal issues but thats not the way to solve them.

By the way, when he is sleeping i empty the rum bottle, or at least i throw away a little and he even doesnt notice that. Please help me.

He usually drink the rum with diet coke and he does that every day when he came from work. He drinks at least 2 glasses of rum with diet coke and sometimes even more like 4 or 5 and then is when he gets really silly.
He start to "play" with me like punching me, hit me in my leg, not that hard but im afraid he will get violent, sometimes i have to tell them to stop and get up and leave, until them he realizes that he is really bothering me.

Gently let him know that you are concerned about it. It could backfire though, so be very careful, he might get very defensive about it start hurling abuse back at you if he knows it is a problem. On the other hand he could just be dying for someone to reach out and help him like I used to be. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, then try to get to the root of the problem without mentioning the drinking. A lot of men drink as a way to act out depression. Women tend to dwell on their feelings while men drink them away. Suggest he see a counsellor about his issues or even research some places in your area so you can just give him a card. Most importantly, whether you decide to say anything or not, let him know that you are there for him. You are a good friend to be concerned and I hope that you can help him out. All the best =)

As someone who has been in that situation, it actually needs your friend to admit they have a problem. If he says he has cut down, then maybe he already understands this.

There is only so much you can say about the bad effects of alcohol before he will ignore you, and that won't help matters.

If the drinking is habitual rather than a need to get drunk, you could suggest mixing the rum with caffeine free diet coke (that way you don't stay awake or put on weight ;-).
You could also suggest getting out more in the evenings which would cut down on drinking time.

the bottom line is he has to want to change

There really is only one way, and it's not easy. Just sit him down and talk to him. Try your best to let him know that you just want him to take it easy because you hate seeing him drunk. He might react well to your speech, or not. Talk to him about his personal issues, because maybe he just needs a shoulder to cry on. Then again, he might be drinking just for a good time. And not even you will know for sure. Just let him know you care and just want the best for him.

first of all.. nicely executed admitting that you've a difficulty and then doing some thing about it.. shop it up and it appears like you've someone to assist you. My suggestion when it comes to telling kin and acquaintances is purely come sparkling to those closest to you. purely bit the bullet and tell. they are going to help and love you for coming sparkling and getting the help you want. If anybody else askes why you're literally not eating you do not opt to inform them (till you want to) purely say you do not sense like it at present. stay good and strong success

Just tell him I want to be your friend, but if you continue to drink the way you are doing we will have to quit talking
