It would have been easier to read your text if written with small and capital letters.

Nurses can "PROMOTE" incontinent in older people by giving them diapers instead of letting them find and get to the bathroom on a regular basis and this way prevent incontinent - which is nurse's primary goal ethically. Probably does this reflect what health services is like at one particular institution. I think the idea of doing this is not to actually promote incontinence, but to, in a naive way; save time. The loss of dignity is not considered at all.

What was your question?

Do you mean how can nurses promote methods of preventing incontinence? If so, the best remedy is to ensure that the patients are toiletted every 2 hours. Incontinence is not part of aging and can well be contained. For those with limited mobility, it helps to assist in some kind of mild excercise including gentle stretching.

Your question is rather disturbing to me (as a registered nurse for 24 years )AND I am sure to family members, and others involved in ADL's of "older people"..What do you mean by "older people"? What gives you the notion that nurses encourage incontence of bowel and bladder control? I am any other questions to ask but in my practicing opinion if an alledged nurse does promote this activity without trying many options she is not a "Real Nurse" no empathy,no patience, no knowledge. and shame on her

What they are asking is to state the difference between what normally happens when you get older and abnormal things. For example: it is normal for older adults to have a decrease in strength, benign degeneration of the vision, high-tone hearing loss, loss of body fat, development of barrel chest, and orthostatic hypotension. It is abnormal for an older adult to have any pathologic disease, loss of consciousness, hearing loss, cachexia, malignant hypertension, etc. A good book to refrence is Geriatric Nursing and Healthy Aging. Good luck!

Promote it? I thought in order to maintain dignity as the body deterioriates, you want to promote continence, instead of immediately sticking them in diapers and teaching them how to change it for themselves.

Seems a bit harsh to feel that old people are "in the way".

Promote incontinence in older people?

.....you like changing REALLY BIG Diapers or something?

If you are trying to impress me, you are doing a lowsy job!

I'm pretty sure this will be your only answer to this question..... other than sarcastic ones.

Why would a nurse promote incontin. in older people? There is no sane reason for that, it breeds uti's along with other disorders.
