You can read about the end of the world in the Bible in the Book of Revelation. The world will end when Jesus Christ returns. Christ described some of the events that will occur when his return is near. Many of these signs we are seeing today like earthquakes, wars and evil everywhere. This earth will be destroyed by fire and God will create a new heaven and earth which all evil will be removed and the unbelievers will be sent to the lake of fire. We just need to be active in telling others to believe on Jesus so they are ready whenever he returns.

Humans will evolve to such a point that there is world peace and then there will be no use for the Earth (which according to some beliefs is a place of learning) and move onto the next step in eternal life. (No, I am not very religious-- it would be fun to see what someone could come up with that is different than WW3 or 4 or whatever.)

Seriously, I think it will end long after we are gone. It will be a silent moment with pain felt only in its history. Death will be quick, but the time will be pointless. All memory of creatures, environment, space and distance will be immediately replaced with the understanding of change.

People will most likely cause a Nuclear Winter or two, or they will deplete all our Natural resources and we'll end up with a "Soylent Green" Type society.

The planet will end when Sol supernovas.
The human race will just evolve into something different--maybe several different things.
