In my search for knowledge and answers i came across the justice department's website and found these statistics. Will you take a look at them and tell me what you think?

Statistics are always great sources of information and, sources of misinformation through incorrect interpretation. For example, I wonder what would be the result in comparing homicide rates (offender and victim) of black to white if, we removed all such statistics involved with drugs? Would the figures between black and white be much closer? If so, then conclusions as to causes would take on a quite different perspective.

It might also be a different conclusion if all statistics involving gang related figures were removed.

From the figures provided some might conclude that blacks are more violent in connection with illegal transactions and whites more violent in family relationships. I am very suspect of such general conclusions.

The opinion that things have always been this way are not a reflection of reality, and in this area I suggest that one check similar figures from the 1950s.

That these figures are somehow connected to the slave trade is outside of any reality or facts. Many other connections should be made, for example, prior to the minimum wage the largest group of unemployed was white urban males in their early 20s. After the minimum wage that changed and black urban males became the largest group of unemployed. So such figures could be related to these homacide figures, but they too would have little connection to reality.

Call me the optimist in the bunch, but what I see from the top two graphs at least, is that the rate of black victimization in homicide as well as perpetration of homicide has DECREASED by almost half over the last 20 -25 years while the rate for whites has remained quite steady.

Thats the suituation in the US... has been for a while. Its related to the slave trade in an odd sort of way - there is still massive racial inequality in some parts of the US, which means blacks are basically given less chances in life, meaning more liklyhood of committing a crime, any crime, be it murder or stealing food.

At least, thats how I've come to understand it.
