In the US neonatal foreskin removal is committed against ~60% of male babies.

Presumably to get it out of the way early as they will want it cut off when they get older anyway.

But then, why don't the other 40% of males who grow up WITHOUT foreskins cut their's off at some stage?

Why don't ALL OF THEM do this?

Because circumcision isn't medically necessary - it's basically cosmetic surgery. Like 95% of uncircumcised guys have no problems with their foreskins, and of the 5% that do, VERY few will warrant a circumcision as the only solution.

"Presumably to get it out of the way early as they will want it cut off when they get older anyway." That's a very common misconception. Around 80% of the world's men are uncircumcised so "wanting it cut off" would depend on where you lived and if there's anything wrong. If being uncircumcised were truly so bad, then I wonder how the many billions of people in the world and in human history have gotten by without being circumcised - something to think about.

Those other 40%'s parents probably respect their boy's freedom of choice over his own body. Circumcision is irreversible, and what if the boy resents it later? Oops, too late, can't say sorry. And besides, regardless that babies won't remember pain in the long term, having a painful procedure in such a sensitive area as one of your first experiences in life is quite cruel. I mean, you wouldn't remove the tonsils of a neonate would you? Chances are that if you haven't been circumcised at birth, you probably won't want it later. Then again, depends on the person and the situation.

Its annoying, I wouldn't know to tell you the truth, but having to clean it and all I'd bet it would.
