What you need to do is reclaim your charges.

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/bankcharges will help you to do this.

Once you have that money back you will probably be back in credit and have some money to spend.

Good luck.

Banks live by their own rules and tend to be a law upon themselves.

In the past I had to claim (or rather explain and ask for) some charges back for my better half and once with a credit card for me. There is no 'right' way of doing this - no form to fill in! The only way you can go about it is by contacting your local bank and talking to some one. The recent articles in the press ahve made it sound as though it's an easy & simply thing to do but it isn't ........

The bank is with in its rights to charge you for breaking the rules you agreed to by opening an account with them.

You have left it a little late if some of your charges are 12 months old.

If you talk to your bank in a clear and mature manner, explaining what has happened and that you will remain a loyal customer if they were to refund some of your charges you might strite it lucky and get a few quid back ............. it's like flipping a coin - you might win or you might lose!

Best of luck!

Unfortunately Banks are powerful and if you break their rules they make you pay big. I have never heard of an agency to reclaim charges. I have only heard of calling a begging the bank to please reverse some of the charges. The easiest thing to do is just keep track of your spending so you don't go over. In the meantime, if you are desparate for money, you could borrow from friends, pawn something, go to one of those check cashing places that hold her check until the next payday. But really figure out a way that works for you to keep track so you don't fall into the Bank's traps.

They were discussing this on GM TV one morning & said all the details were on their website, I ought to have a look too!
Good Luck, these Banks take the money far too quickly & don't like giving it back. The more of us that start reclaiming, the better!

Also, beware that if you are succesful in claiming back your charges by threatening legal action, charges which you agreed to in the terms and conditions, they may well close your account.

Try not spending money that you do not have.
