why do we have to pull up the window shades on plane when we are taking off and landing??

It is because in the case of an emergency the cabin crew can see the exterior of the aircraft from the cabin and can make a judgement of whether to evacuate, and which side would be better (e.g. if the port side engine was on fire, you'd exit on the starboard.)

interior the final ten years i've got flown over a hundred cases. no longer as quickly as have been the passengers asked to drag up the window colors on a similar time as commencing up or touchdown. usually I pull my colors down, as do many different human beings. So, we don't could desire to do it.

This is in case you crash. It makes sure that your eyes are adjusted to the natural light, so you can escape faster. Of course, this assumes that you are not being consumed by a bright ball of fire.
