because it's more fun to see the variety of answers than to just google it. It's interactive.

I think people just enjoy the site and like the interaction that Yahoo gives them. I know I find alot of answers for people by doing a little surfing myself but I don't mind.

Also I think they get a broader range of answers by hearing from other people. I do answer questions sometimes that are so simple with a click of the mouse to look up though. But I really think it's the interaction. Even though we don't talk to each other in Answers.

Have A Good Day!

Because often they want anothers opinion or ideas or experiences on something, rather than just the facts.
Reading a Wikipedia article on Set theory, might be a lot harder to understand than having someone explain it in simpler terms...or even with an example or 2.
Also, being able to read a response from 8 different people may give a more rounded answer than taking a single source

I think that it proves that a Librarian's job is not obsolete. But here at Yahoo Answers, there are lots of Librarians that want to provide answers.

It must be for the POINTS.

Oddly enough, there are plenty of reduntant copies of the same questions and answers here. The search box yeilds hundreds of great answers.

For instance... use the search feature to find
"auction websites like eBay, but don't charge POSTING fees"
and you will find the same set of answers again and again. Some of these have recommendations, pro and con. So the answers are diced with opinion.

Some of us don't know where to look. Some of us want to see if anyone else knows the answers. Some of us are just having fun, and that's the closest we ever come to any form of entertainment.

I agree with the "lazy" comment above... they are just lazy.. and they are using the wrong site.. if you typed most of theses questions into google it would spit out your answer.
