Last night my PC registered a virus called the "Downloader" virus which Norton Internet Security/Anti-virus could not remove. It found the file which is called CLUSLXX.DLL but couldn't do anything with it. I went to Norton's website and they said to go in safe mode and run norton to remove it but this did not work. I can't delete it or rename it because it says the file is in use.

What can I do to get rid of it? I don't want to have to clear my PC if I don't have to.

Thanks!

Tried several of the suggestions below and none worked. Installed Panda Software and it says it disinfected something and doesn't seem to recognize the file as a virus anymore, however I can't delete the .dll.

Anymore thoughts?

Try finding different anit-virus programs such as AVG. If all else fails, try searching the microsoft website for patches.
Also download some anti-spyware and ad-aware.

If it is deeply embedded it may need removial from the registery manually. Something I cant advise over the web, or e-mail.
(turn off Norton first, as 2 antivirus will NOT run together at the same time.)

Try the following software below first.
I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows and the following software Updated)

The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)
The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (www.spybot.info)
AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)
AND Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.info/kb/)
The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.

These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.

The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan's, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)

Is the file/program always running? If so you can go to start menu then click Run then type in "MSCONFIG" press enter a System Configuration Utility window will pop up. Go to the Start up tab. Now see if the file/program is set to start on booting up. If so un check the box restart in safe mode and try deleting it.

WARING: If you dont know what your clicking please dont it can be harmful to your computer.

You need to start your computer and press F8. This will allow you to choose how to start the computer.Choose command prompt. You know what the name of the file is but you need to know where it is located. In which directory and sub directories. you need to navigate to the location of the file infected. then simply delete it.change attributes by typing -r -s -h -a (name of file w/extension). then try deletting again.Good luck.
