Simply put Class B is for straight trucks over 26,001LBS and Class A is for Tractor Trailers..Also known as Combination vehicles. Class A is the trump you can drive any kind of truck given you have the proper endorsements....I.E. Tanker endorsement, doubles/triples endorsement, School Bus endorsement, And the almighty HAZMAT endorsement. Get the hazmat it makes you so much more marketable when looking for a driving job.

I don't know if it's the same in all states, but the only difference is that with a Class A CDL you can haul over 10,000 pounds. With the Class B it's suppose to be under 10,000 pounds.

The size of the trailers that you're licensed to drive. I picked this up from a Federal Website for you.
Classes of License:
The Federal standard requires States to issue a CDL to drivers according to the following license classifications:
Class A -- Any combination of vehicles with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds provided the GVWR of the vehicle(s) being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
Class B -- Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing a vehicle not in excess of 10,000 pounds GVWR.
Class C -- Any single vehicle, or combination of vehicles, that does not meet the definition of Class A or Class B, but is either designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver, or is placarded for hazardous materials.
