I think Soriano. And also one more SP if available. Dotel will be back in the pen for a RP.

Barry Zito. Left hand pitchers do well in the stadium and he's one of the best in the game.

The Yankees pitching is their Achilles heel. Barry Zito would probably be the best fit, but it doesn't appear as though Oakland is going to let him go until the off-season. I don't think they need Soriano, they aren't desperate for offense. And what players do the Yanks have to send to Washington? Soriano wouldn't come cheaply and the Nats would demand some quality prospects. I wouldn't be too excited about Dotel, he was a disaster with the A's.

I'm a huge believer that a great pitcher will shut down a great hitting team. With that being said, the Braves (and Smoltz) will be considering a trade for him if they fade from the playoff race. Smoltz has already stated that he would allow a trade if the Braves thought it would help them out (plus he is a FA after this year and can come back and sign with them).

Also; you have to look at the teams that they will be going up against in the playoffs: Red Sox, White Sox, Tigers, A's, Angels? All of these teams have at least 1 stopper, can you say that about the Yankees? Mussina is good, but we have been seeing a few shades of last season creeping up on him.

Pitching, pitching, pitching....... they need it or they will be watching the playoffs from the stands.

As much as Soriano would help, the Yankees will not trade Phillip Hughes, who the Nationals want for Soriano. Their offense is going to be fine...they are still hitting the ball. I believe a trade for a guy like Livan Hernandez, Tony Armas Jr., or maybe an arm like Jason Schmidt (who the Giants are asking a fortune for).

With so many teams still in the race, it's going to be hard for the Yankees to pull off anything significant, now that they are trying to keep their future stars.

Yankees need pitching more than anything. Their lineup is the best in baseball when heathly but if they don't get a decent starting pitcher they will have trouble making the playoffs.

I don't think the Yankees would need Soriano...although it would be nice...I would want them to go after a pitcher...hopefully someone like Barry Zito...but I don't think Zito is going anywhere. :(

jesus christ.

but seeing as he's not available, steinbrenner will just have to settle for being screwed and missing the playoffs.
