This is the first time I heard about it. I gone through a site indicated by Loana Sand, and found that it is a practise in some African countries. It is done with an intention to keep the virginity of the girl, by making her lesser curious towards sex.

Thanks Loana sand for this information.

Because it's a cultural thing and the people will feel like their culture is being disrespected and get seriously angry. Basically, it's just a matter of them not having the correct kind of education. And, the medical facilities are basically non existant. It happens in a lot of places in the 3rd World, including where I come from, and it's scary.

these poor South African countries really do that... some NGOs have already done their part in educating locals that it is not appropriate,,, yet they are not educated people that's why their old traditions are still being done.. there was even one woman representative of an NGO tha was almost lynched when she tried to stop a girl being circumzised... these people are really stupid...

It is often done in secret and is so ingrained in tradition that it will be almost impossible to stop it. It is a really sad thing though, as any circumcision (female or male) unnecessary.

Lot's of people are trying to eleminate this unhuman situation. But since it's cultural, alot of work will be needed to stop it. Education is the key.
