First off, to breathe, you simply turn your head to the side to breathe in freestyle. People tend to breathe after at least every three strokes. I was trained to breathe every 3 or 5, but I like every 4 the best.

An olympic sized pool is 50 meters long.

Freestyle: your head goes out of the water to breath right about when your arm is at about 90 degree angle and you turn your head so that about half of your face is out of the water and put it back before your hand starts to go into the water.

Butterfly: as your hands start to exit the water you lift your head up like a turtle and out it donwn once your hands go past your face and are in frount of you.

Breastroke: once you get to the pull part of your stroke and you get the feeling of your body is coming up you lift your head. and as you are leaning back down into the water your head fallows.

Backstroke: you can breath when ever you want
