if you served on active duty you are in titled to benefits. Go to the VA home page and you can find all your answers. Even if it was in the 60s they will review your case. I served in the 60's, Vietnam, and last year had medical problems that were investigated and I was given disability due to delayed illness from agent orange.

You can try the lawyer route, but after all this time I wouldn't get my hopes up. As for the back pay or back benefits I'd give that a snowballs chance in hell.

Getting benefits for something that happened about fourty years ago is going to be hard to prove it's the service injury that is all the problem.

Because you weren't up to the physical capabilities required by the military doesn't mean you are diabled. And because you hurt doesn't mean it's service related. It could mean you are getting old.

You want to find out if you really have a case? See if a lawyer will take it on a contingency fee. If he says no, only on an hourly rate. Forget it. If he says yes you probably have a case.

Write to VA and inquire (get the reason why they denied your medical attention/pay). If the reason isn't good enough then consult a lawyer but it could take much time and money. To bad you waited SO long.
