Is it all over for the Star Trek TV shows or will it make a comeback in the near future.

I happened to catch a conversation on G4 about some sort of rumor. It was about either a show or movie about a young Kirk in the academy. I like the idea of that, but they all wanted Matt Damon to be Kirk for some reason.

I hope so.
I am a Trekkie and confess to having seasons 1-7 TNG, 1-3 of the TOS and select episodes of the other series and surviving the loss by watching them.

Matt Damon will be playing Captain James T. Kirk in yet another remake, so you will have a whole new generation of installments to satisfy all your Star Trek needs.

As long as it's well written. A movie with a young Kirk & Spock may be a good idea, but it may lead to continuity errors. But if it's well written, with emphasis on the characters & storylines rather than the FX, this won't matter.

I reckon they will make a comeback, but it is probably a good idea to leave it for a few years and get some fresh young writers and new ideas.

They are currently considering a new film (the eleventh so far), and it is roumered that it will be set during Kirk and Spock's academy days.
They are not currently planning another TV series though.

I'd like to see another film but if they did do the series it needs to have more episodes with the Borg!

Startrek will never die, it will live on forever. but i think they should do a new film that has nothing to do with voyager/ds9/enterprise/TNG/TOS but should be new characters, which is cool, could spin off in to a series, if not do another film and so on.

If they do bring it back, they will need to return it to its roots as edgy sci-fi that challenges social norms, rather than as sanitized hollywood pablum.
