Some of yall's answer are amazing
1st : Marseille is in the south of FRANCE !!!
2nd : Algeria WAS a french colony. It ISN'T anymore since 1962 !
3rd : Zidane was born in France, in Marseille, and not in Algeria. he didin't have to choose anything. His parents moved to France before he was born !

He was born in Algeria and lived in Marselle(rough part) with to Algerian parents!
It is/was a french colony which gives him the option to play for either country!

but his ethnicity is Kabyle, NOT Arab, even though he is Muslim
(The Kabyles are native Algerians who lived in North Africa thousands of years before the Arabs invaded)
I'm not sure if he speaks Kabyle, but it is certainly a different language from Arabic
