When I boot up my computer the screen is fine, but as the day goes on the screen changes, and dips inwards from the middle - just like an hour glass shape. This means I lose the top of menu bars etc. The only way I have found to remedy it is to re-boot. I can't be doing this often during the day, and I was wondering if there is a cure, or if I need to buy a new monitor.

Yes, could be a pincushion capacitor problem.

They even make colour TV now.

First, it is NOT your graphics card as some people here believe!

The problem will be to do with using a monitor that is old.
If the problem was there all the time then you would need an engineer to open your monitor and adjust some parts inside of it to fix.

Most likely as your monitor heats up this causes the problem due to a broken component or becoming disconnected due to the heat.

You can fix this but its going to be cheaper to buy a new monitor.

If you have access to another PC or laptop, test the monitor with that and if you have an extra video cable, try that as well. You should try to rule out the video card or cable as being the problem first.

However, it does sound like the monitor is the problem. Dust build-up inside can cause this, or other normal wear & tear can too. I don't advise you take it apart to clean it, though, as a monitor can hold thousands of watts in capacitors for days after it's been unplugged (enough to kill you).

perhaps it's the monitor, but first I think the graphics card needs to be checked, as what you see and how the monitor behaves is as good as the graphics card.

so it's worth checking, as a graphics card is a lot cheaper than a new monitor, it would be a pain in the *** if you bought a new monitor and it still behaved the same way.

lots of good graphics cards sold cheaply on ebay

Simply plug the monitor to other computer and if it behaves the same way. You need a new monitor else you either need to check your graphics card software or you need a new graphics card.

Your Graphic-card could be going faulty or the graphic-card is loose in the slot. If you think your Graphic Card is fine then you need to have your Monitor checked. Good Luck
