The project aims at reading a sentence in malayalam & converting it to its meaning in english using software.Any details about similiar project done in dravidian language(tamil,telungu) will be helpful.I plan to use JAVA. This is 1 year project done as a part of my M.tech programme

It certainly could lead to a diplomatic incident! Take the search of a company's activities using a translation tool which rendered what in Spanish meant "handling client funds" into "touching clients' bottoms"! It's rather like the arguments I have been known to have with websites, where a human being could understand the problem but a computer system is incapable of doing so. Translation tools are just as intransigent. I enjoy looking at some of these computerised translations for some light relief. They never fail to surprise and delight me! But when I need to know what something really means -- give me a human being any time.

google is working on it already and have 100s of millions dedicated to the project. It sounds like you could get a job there working on the project, so go and apply now!

For a software developer you seem suprisingly incapable of searching the internet for yourself.... make sure you realise what a HUGE task writing translation software is before you invest too much of your time in it...
