My theory is that the 2:00 am cutoff in California seriously contributes to DUI's. People at bars feel pressured to drink more in a short period becuase of the deadline. Then they are literally thrown into the street with no where to go to except their cars. Have you ever noticed that when you're in Las Vegas and planning to get drunk you never really do because they serve it all the time and you wind up drinking less because psychologically you feel like you have more time? I bet that if someone did a study of drunk driving in Nevada they would find the incidence it is less and directly correlates to the fact that they don't shut you down at 2:00 am. This 2:00 am law needs to be addressed because it was started by prudes in California a long time ago and it is no longer and probably never was valid.

very good theory i was talking to my dad about this the other day (i love in IL) and bars can be held responsible for drunk driving accidents because the bars don't tell them to stop and give them more, they contribute to it. Also me and my dad were talking about how bars could have sleeping rooms or something that if they get to drunk they can't leave to prevent anything that can happen.

check ya later ♥

There are people that will drink if drinks are available. The bad part is that joints will throw you out as soon as they can no longer serve you alcohol. For those that must drink when they can, they will be forced onto the street and into their cars when they are still too drunk. Clubs should be able to retain any drivers that are not fit to drive until they sober up or have a ride home.

Your theory is great but just a theory. If someone is going to drink and drive like a fool, the time of day or night will not matter.
Closing time might be early morning but bars, beer stores and liquor stores all open early. The time of day or the time of cut off cannot stop a fool from drinking and driving!

Its not really an issue because those who must drink and drive will always look for a way to do that.
