The "gay gene" has NOT been discovered. But there are millions of people who insist that being gay is genetic. Why?

People get confused between an inherent aspect of themselves and a genetic one.

Most people say - "I was born this way" meaning it was not a choice they made.

Eye colour example, my eyes are brown - I cannot change my eye colour - it is part of me - (science has confirmed that eye colour is genetic)

Homosexuality example, I am gay - I cannot change it - it is part of me - my genes define me for eyes so homosexuality must be genetic too.

Same basic logic but without the science !!

Because scientific research strongly suggests that there is a gay gene -- or a set of gay genes.

The fact that this research ever took place has horrified me for years. I feared the results way back when I was a kid working retail and not yet having my first degree in 1990 when the first studies came out. I have seen nothing to indicate that my fear was wrong, and a great deal to suggest that it was right -- such as James Watson in England calling for selective abortion of homosexual infants.

As for those who are saying here that it isn't genetics, don't be silly. If its genetics for fruit flies -- which is clearly is ---- why wouldn't it be genetics for humans? More complicated genetics certainly (I hope, it will make it more difficult to kill us off), but genetics nonetheless. Further, I would think that the existence of exclusive homosexuality among hundreds of animal species studied in the wild and in captivity alike would give pause to such skepticism. Do you genuinely think that wild goats wake up and decide "I think I'll be gay?" Or do you think it is, perhaps, completely natural and normal? (see Bruce Bagemihl; Biological Exuberance; St. Martin's Press if you question my assertion on exclusive homosexuality)

Since we well know, beyond question now, that homosexuality is genetic in fruitflies (see links below) and while we may or may not have already found the gay gene for males (Xq28), scientists are narrowing the search. Several university genetics departments are focusing on mapping out the gene(s) related to homosexuality and even the most cautious scientists predict that a full map will be available within 20 years.

Then you can start aborting your gay infants as Dr. Watson suggested. Killing us before we are born. The American Medical Association says that in all cultures 8-11% of males are homosexual -- that is based on research over many decades. I do not want to see the world where the gentle ones, the sweet ones, the kind ones have all been eliminated. Given my family history for longevity, I may not have to see it in 40 years -- when, if the experiments being undertaken now are successful and selective abortion is used -- there will be no more of us among the young.

Enjoy your world -- and see what else you lose along with us.

Regards,

Reynolds Jones

The best answer to be had is that it is a lot of genetic and a little nurture. I know it doesn't sit well with those that like to think in black and white or even comic book colors, but that's the way the world works most of the time. Based on twins studies, even identical twins only had a 50% chance of being gay if the other twin was gay. 50% is much higher than the 2-4% in the general population. Fraternal twins ran about 20% rate, adopted (non-genetic siblings) of the same age in the same family ran about the same rate as the regular population. This means that a combination of factors, primary among them genetics, is the cause. You also need to identify the different "stripes" of homosexuality and bisexuality, where so far they use the very black and white "gay vs. straight".

Anybody that tries to paint for you a world in comic book colors is using you as a pawn.

Because there are many cases of young kids not teenagers but kids whom behave opposite of its own sex and not naturally attracted for what its own sex usually is attracted.
There is a theory that says the sex is form before the area of the brain that determines a person's sexuality (or vice verse) is formed, therefore happening of sometimes the physical formation not to matches with the one formed in the brain.
There are cases where a person whom are born with box sexuals members, have one of its removed while a child and being raised by parents as the sex kept on the person's body, grows up feeling the sex removed was the right one, even on the cases whom the person had no knowledge at all of being born with boths sexes and getting to understand the reason of feeling diferent from the sex its has or was raised for because the one removed was the one the persons feels being the "right" one.
On a search for answers of why some people are gay ? Science has tryed to provide some help or answers by its own larger vaiarity areas of science, as genetic or pschycology and so on.
You are right when you said the "gay gene" hasn't been found but it does not mean it hasn't a "gay gene". We carry genetic informations from our parents or ancestres but it doesn't mean we develope all the genetic informations we carry, that's why sometimes a person look like more with a aunt than a mother for example or that's why sometimes just one sinbling develop cancer for example and the other one didn't and this goes to all genetics areas.
The latest sudy I read about this was last year. Doctors had a theory that most gay people received is genetic"gay" information by the mother. They believed that is a gene in the mother not in the father that turn someone in gay.
I am sure sex isn't an option. Isn't something that after we reach certain age decide to chose and follow, as a career, do accept or adopt. I believe also sexuality is something inerrant of our will or wish.
I am not gay, I am straight but I know people and have friends whom are gay since very young and very pure or innocent to choose his or her sexuality. Him or her always enjoyed and felt attracted by things opposite of him or her own physical sex normally feels attracted.
Now, what I don't believe at all, is the thing about someone enjoy both sexes equally. On this case, I believe the person is someone whom is having problems to accept its own homosexuality.
As a women, I can admire another women's beauty, I can think another women is beautiful but I don't feel sexual attracted by another women. I feel sexual attracted by a men.

If it was genetic it would pass from father to son. We accept George Bush is an exception to what I just said.
There are homosexuals because they can not succeed in carrying their gender's responsibilities.
Like gay men. They can not handle being a man. tHATS WHY. THEY CHOOSE THE EASIER WAY.
Lesbians. Show me a good looking lesbian pleaseeeeee!
no need to say more
You will burn in hell
Take your nasty existence away from our kids.
They are undoubtedly the scum of the earth!

ps: TECHX69 is an irritating gay jew that constantly harrasses people who ask questions! So Fcuk him in the a.ss. He will love it, I guarantee it...

To lead a gay life is to be maladjusted to the world around you. It's easier to claim you were born this way than to accept that you made this choice yourself.

People have difficulty accepting differences, and like to find someone/something to blame for their dislike towards the issues to make them feel like an unpredigest 'good guy', when in fact they are as*holes.

It all comes down to the old question. "Is it Nature or Nurture". Its been argued but never resolved for decades.
