It's the matter of manners. I think you still can apologise to him/her eventhough it's claerly their fault. It won't cost you a cent anyway. It build your characters. So goodluck. Best wishes from me..(i hope nobody will bump into you again)

Newton's Third Law of Motion. With every action, there as an equal reaction with force of the same magnitude, to opposite direction and acting on a different body. Applied to your situation, when somebody "bumps" into you, you actually "bumps" back into them. Therefore, you should say sorry too.

Stupid manners!! I'm the absolute worst for this. I'm always bloody apologising when somebody does something to me. Like when I was travelling in New Zealand, the cleaners of the hostel would come in my room every ******* morning and wake me up, and I'd be the one saying sorry!

Yes because sometimes to the other person it seems that you bumped into them. Even if to use it's clearly thier fault. To avoid problems just say sorry, it's easier

It's called being polite.
BTW, How do you know it is clearly their fault? If you know its their fault then it is apparent that you saw it coming. And to have seen it coming and not be able to avoid it then it is clearly just as much YOUR fault.

we're waiting to see if they give us a snide remark like, "d*mn straight, you're sorry!" so that we can thrown the smack down, leaving them huddled in the fetal position on the street corner, sobbing loudly and uncontrollably, attempting to figure out a way to recover from the life-threatening wounds that were just inflicted on them, all the while thinking, "it's mcdonald's fault that i'm fat!"

Simply because they too might think it is your fault so to eliminate any confusion on whos fault it is, its so much more easier to apologize...it doesnt cost anything and your pride will still be intact.

Its good manners. Its a faux pas in England but not in Ireland. In Ireland we just **** around the place half-pissed and dont give a crap who we bump into and neither do the person your hitting................. Ah no only messing.

Because we managed to steal their wallet and feel guilty?!
I think it's a mixture of manners and submissiveness; anyother response could lead to a confrontation.
