with the advent of SACD (super audio CD), DVD audio, Mp3 players and future technology such as HD-DVD and Blu-ray DVD, what future does the humble audio CD have? does it make sense to invest on a CD collection when you're not sure new CD's and CD players will be around 2-3 years from now?

Join the crowd. With new technology always right around the corner it is perplexing. I have gone from LP's, 8-tracks, cassettes, CD's, Remastered CD's, and SACD's. I will buy whatever is out there that hits my fancy at the time. I have even bought some of those "Quad" albums that were available for maybe a "nano minute". Don't worry, buy what gives you enjoyment for the time. The coolest part of the new technology is that it sounds better and better. I just got 2 of the "Moody Blues" albums on SACD. WOW.

They will be around for awhile. And wont those players be able to play a normal cd and currently mp3 files dont have the audio quality the others do.
