The place is littered with hotels & shops selling Jalebi, Gathias, Fafdas, kachoris, patras, etc. If you avoid these, you'll not get gastric problems, only then you'll be in condition to go out.OK?
Try the masala Sodas,ice creasm,faloodas.They're great.
And places to visit? Check out with the Guj.state Tourism Development site, or maybe with friends/relatives you're going to stay with. They'll explain in typical Amdavadi Gurerati.(They pronounce delux buses as LASKARI buses. so chweet.
Have a nice time. Avoid Akshardham Temple.Always a hot place.
