Not easy.
First step:
After a conversation when you think your mouth has flapped to much, think over what was said.
Did you really understand and respond correctly at the time?
Can you now see & understand more about the other persons point?
Could you have answered better?
Could you have given a much shorter response and said the same thing?
That is the learning curve.
Step two:
From what you learned in step one, listen more carefully and ensure you clearly understand what is being said.
Think it through.
Give a considered reply.
Listen and understand the reply.
Then carry on like that.
Step three:
Every so often go through step one again and rate yourself on how you have improved. How you could still improve etc.
Something else which is helpful is watching how others speak and respond.
See the good speakers and try and emulate them.
See the bad speakers and avoid their mistakes.
Do this for a few months to a year and you should find that people are listening more closely to you and your 'big mouth' has shrunk a little.
good luck

Its a good thing that you talk a lot. I would suggest that you look at more and more productive thingsin life.. Bush is also a big mouth but he uses that as a leader to lead others with positive and strong words. If you help others you wouldn't have to keep it shut and it may even bring you wonders.

People who talk too much usually lack self confidence and are afraid of what others might say. So they just keep talking. Hence others don't get the chance to comment for if they did the one talking would find out how ridiculous what they have been talking about actually was...
I recommend you consider listening to others for a change, it is amazing what people will tell you when you really listen to them!

Do as I do when I go on diet. Every time I see a chocolate (my biggest weakness) I try to replace it for something else, something almost as pleasurable as it is for me. I see what is available around me and select something from what are offered.
Unfortunately people can change, they can improve or adapt themselves.
On your case, you will always be a very opinionated person. Try to observe and analyze close things you said, after that try to find something positive about the thing you said by getting educated about it (magazine, newspaper or even here on the net). Every time you feel to say something, remember the reflexion you did and information's you collected and say something as positive as possible (no as kisser but valuable). People will get interested by your opinions and knowledge they will value you more and expect always to bring something to hear what do you think about it.
If most of the time you bring something smart or positive to say, people will find you are friendly or a smart person and that is great. Lots of opinionated make a good money by its talent.

hi, the best way of keeping your "big mouth shut" is being empathy with other people and be a good listener. Always remember, if you start hearing with your ears and listen with your hearts, then your mouth will not utter a single words unnecessarily.
Just try it out.

Everytime you feel like saying/screaming something count till 10, that usually does it for me. Or keep a photograph or something belonging to one of your loved ones in your pocket and be reminded when you want to blur out something what they would think of it. Works as well.
