I think 5 days will not be enough for you to see the 2 countries properly. Looks like you may need to make another trip in the future!
Singapore is a modern city so you get to see pretty modern stuff. The zoo, bird park and Merlion are worth a visit. The musical fountain in Sentosa is also nice to unwind with. Of course the nightlife along Boat Quay, Clarke Quay, Mohammad Sultan Road, Robertson Walk and Zouk. And pig out at the food centres.
Malaysia, guess the capital Kuala Lumpur will be the place cos you have not much time to see others. In KL, shopping in megamalls will be fun. Pigging out too.
Next time if you have time, visit Malacca, Penang, Pahang and Trengganu in Malaysia. Tell you more then.

Hi!I am a Malaysian(but not a malay) but i live in Singapore.
Weather there is extremely hot like Singapore. But the weather won't affect your vacation there.(My opinion only). It is a bit dirty there but you would enjoy your trip there.
Langkawi(if you are going,i am just giving you some info) is probably the best place in Malaysia as you can see the sunrise and the sunset and the weather is cooler than Kuala Lumpur.Food over there is very delicious.Mmm...And there are lots of things to enjoy over there.
Kuala Lumpur has this tower call the Petronas Towers. It is actually a twin tower. It is one of the tourists attractions.
There is another place where you can't miss.It is the Genting Highlands. It is actually high up in the mountain.Weather there is totally different from Kuala lumpur.there are lots of games to play.many!well i can't really say out all the games because there are lots of games. If you are going there you would have a lot of fun!
some more...you must go to sunway lagoon.Wha!there is full of water.very fun!but must go during the weekdays if not there will be a lot of people.
Historic City : Melaka ( Malacca ) & Penang
Modern Cities : Kuala Lumpur & Johor Bahru
Greenland : Sarawak, Sabah, Pahang
For fun : Genting Highland, Sunway Lagoon, A'Famosa Waterworld, Underworld Langkawi etc
well there is a lot of places you really can't miss when you visit Singapore.Don't think it is only an island, but our facilities are superb!
Nature parks:Bukit timah nature reserve
Beach:Sentosa
Shopping centre:Suntec city,tampines mall
Waterworld:Wild wild wet,jurong swimming complex
ice rink/place full of snow:fuji ice palace in jurong entertainment centre, snow city
place:orchard,chinatown,little india
wild life:night safari,singapore zoo
full of birds:Jurong Bird park.
Studies:Singapore science centre
food:old airport hawker centre
fun:escape theme park at downtown east, pasir ris(near wild wild wet)
parks:east coast park

river:singapore river
Hope you enjoy your trip in singapore and malaysia!By the way, where are you from?europe?north america, africa, antarctica?just kidding!
