A friend told me that the phrase means the person doesn't know better or any differant. I'm curious as to whether others are interpreting it the same way and if this is what the writer meant when he wrote the movie "Forrest Gump". TY, BM

the stupid person or stupid action is only as stupid as the preformance or person preforming the action.

Basically its a countrified way of saying, apples don't fall far from the tree. What you do affects the area around you, so be mindful of what you do and how you do it.

Did that help any? heh :P

Haha....what a tough question.....for me anyway...I am such a spontaneous person that many times i don't think before i respond in action or phrase........depending on how stupid i was......is how stupid it is......and it may not be that way if Jane Doe would do and say the exact same thing or do the same thing, because we are all made so different........that it could seem very stupid based on how well you know the person........hope all that makes sense.....but you know.........Stupid is as Stupid does right........

Actions speak louder than words. If you act stupid then people think your stupid, For example lets say you are my girlfriend and i never tell you I love you, but I bring you flowers everyday and and I show you affection. Even though it's not being said, the actions tell you the truth.

It means that although Forrest might not be smart, he can still make smart decisions and "do" smart things, just like a smart person can do stupid things

You're pretty much right. My interpretations of the catchphrase are either "A stupid question merit a stupid answer" ( no offense ) or "Who cares what one sees as 'stupid', anyways???"

different views but almost the same meaning.... a stupid person doesn't have the knowledge of what he does is right or what he does is wrong - his just being plain stupid as he is...
