PLEASE OH PLEASE don't use AVG, spybot or Ad-Aware.

The people who answer with these recommendations obviously have no clue about PC security and need to do their homework. I'm not even going to recommend anything so as not to appear biased - but PLEASE avoid these 3 at all costs. In recent protection and removal tests these have all come virtually bottom of each test and are not protecting their users like they used to.

I've recently installed another program on many computers with these 3 programs as protections - with the new program proceeding to find and remove over 30 virus & trojan infections these "fantastic" 3 programs have all missed.

Trust me - I work with security programs each and every day and you need to invest in a better program than these...

AVG see below.

I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows and the following software Updated)

The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)
The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (www.spybot.info)
AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)
AND Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.info/kb/)
The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.

These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.

The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan's, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)

There are a few things you consider before you choose an anti-virus. One and main, cost. Software systems are expensive so first suit your pocket. Second, your machine. There are software programs that will only run on a certain amount of ram. You have several choices, my recommendations are Norton Anti-Virus (Expensive and Heavy), AVG (There is ever a free version and also requires less capacities of ram) and Panda.

I would have to agree with the person who said AVG, it picks up a lot more then Norton and McAffee does, and better still its free.
Here is a direct link to donwload it:

All Anti-virus software have their benefits, its more personal choice then anything. I personally run symantec corporate (becasue i got it free in college) and i also run AVG as a second scanner, between the 2 i pick up pretty much any virus threat. Just remember to keep updating the virus definitions.

I tried these:

Norton ,,commercial
Maccafee,, commercial
Avast free
AVG 7 free

Believe me the best one was AVG 7 free,,, then AVAST free,,, both Maccafee and Norton were bad,, not in detecting viruses but they make my computer hang and stop and freeze,, and I formatted it several times when I was using norton or macfee...so I am with AVG I am using now with no problem

AVG is the best in my opinion because it is free and it's not a resource hogger like some others. Use the link below to download it. Good luck!

that is the way you remove it: a million) click commence. 2) Then decide on administration Panel. 3) locate upload/remove and click on it. 4) Now locate the problem you prefer to remove. 5) click The Uninstall procedure. 6) finished.
