Disk Defragmenter is the Windows program to regroup data together, for most files, in the hard drive so it can read or load it faster. It's like reading a novel. If the pages are mixed up, it will take you time to flip to the right page after page. The biggest reason why data sometimes get like this is (I think) because if you deleted a file then save a bigger file into your hard drive, it will save a part of that data into that empty space that the previous file used to be, and save the rest into other empty spaces.

Check Disk (chkdsk for short) is also a Windows program that check the hard drive for hardware problems that may prevent data from being written to. It will let the computer know where to save data.

You shouldn't let these 2 programs run at the same time. Maybe that's why it gave that warning. Defragmenting takes a while and the computer is afraid that the scheduled Check Disk will interupt. You should run Check Disk first then run Disk Defragment.

Creates and displays a status report for a disk based on the file system. Chkdsk also lists and corrects errors on the disk. Used without parameters, chkdsk displays the status of the disk in the current drive

It's called checkdisk and it is a windows hard drive fault finder. You should type chkdsk /f into the Run dialogue box in your start menu, it will start automatically. Good luck!
