I want everybody to read this thru before answering! I am not condoning smoking! What I am saying is this. Why must we have our rights as citizens of the U.S. constantly infringed upon by people who do not like what we do.Everytime they make a new law to ban smoking, or ban the way we want to live our lives that is not criminal is an infringement! If a Restaurant owner does not want smoking he or she has the right to ban it. Same with stores or any other place, like a bar,pub or lounge. That is their right as the owner! I feel in the case of Bars that this is for Adult entertainment and should not be included at all in this new law that is sweeping the country! Again if the Bar owner does not want smoke, then he has that right to say NO! I can see public places where children may be involved, but do we really have to inact LAWS to tell adults it's a No No! Can't the owners decide this on their own? Who else agrees with me that this is just not right! Whats next a 2 drink min?Blow at door!

Next they'll outlaw fatty foods.
And fast food restaurants, of course.
And then they'll outlaw caffeine.
And then short skirts.
And the color pink.
And then long hair.
Or short hair.
Or both.

And then... sex.
Silly old world, isn't it?

"Why must we have our rights as citizens of the U.S. constantly infringed upon by people who do not like what we do."
In return I could ask why must we have our rights to breathe clean air infringed upon by people who pollute it with dangerous chemicals without caring what effect it has on the rest of us?

I am glad that smoking laws are becoming stricter. Obviously people weren't capable of handling smoking without laws to guide them.

But look, smoking used to be allowed everywhere. Then since it became evident what effects tobacco smoke has on health smoking has been outlawed in certain places, such as airplanes, busses, banks etc. People were against those changes at the time, but then got used to not being allowed to smoke there and actually realized that it's better like this. Now they're doing this with more places, like restaurants and bars. I think that's a good thing. The less people are forced to breathe other people's drugs the better. I do think though that owners should be allowed to make smoking rooms where their customers can smoke, as long as the staff is not forced to serve them in there and the smoke is kept out of non-smoking areas.

yeah I get what you are saying, but you are hitting a brick wall. Smoking will only be allowed in your own home. And renters will really have to pay extra if they smoke. Look at the people on patches. And I think with the drunk driving laws and so forth (road checks) that Bars are not far behind. They will have a 2 drink limit not minimum. If they even stay open much longer. Personal rights are a fine line.

I agree that the owner has the right to decide if they want their establishment smoking or non. I didn't know some cities ban smoking. I live in Vegas you can smoke in most public places.

Yep. You're right. They've done it unfairly, and raised the fire-protection surcharge on all establishments that allow smoking. To get their fire insurance back to where it used to be, they have to ban smoking in the establishment.

Where I live is pretty backward, and only one person has mentioned opening a smoke-free bar. It won't be long before everybody wants to save that money, and jumps on the bandwagon.

When that happens, I'm opening a smoking bar, and pulling in every smoker in the county, every night, and making my million. $$$$$$$
