or ( if you his older and you're much younger) that is if you want to get involved with him... he's probably telling you " pls am too old for you....i don't want to get involved.

Yes, it means he has no romantic interest in you. Because of the vast difference in ages and possibly your behavior too, he may not view you as being of similar maturity to himself, especially if for some reason you do not appear to have all of your ducks in a row (an aspect of your life appears disorganized/unstable to him). When it comes to your interactions, he takes on the role of the parent/adult, and you take on the role of the child.
Another thing to consider, a guy in his forties who isn't presently married but searching for a mate is probably looking for someone of similar age/maturity to settle down and live out the rest of his life with, a goal he might not have had set for himself twenty years ago; most of your age group still wants to screw around, most of his wants to raise a family and grow old together (if they aren't already doing so).

Maybe he thinks you're too young for him or something...
When a guys wants someone, he usually treats the girl extra special...not like a kid......
