I heard several friends refer to their husbands as their "other kids". It seemed disrespectful (although I figured it was just a joke). But the more I thought about it...

As one of those friends who has referred to her husband as a "kid" and meant it to be disrespectful ...and not a joke, I can tell you my humble opinion regarding this topic. I believe that some men do want to be mothered by their wives and others simply don't. It just depends on the XY you've married. The reason I've called my husband a kid is because many a time, he's behaved like a screaming brat and left messes that a child would have a hard time matching. He also doesn't always flush the toilet, which I believe most potty-trained toddlers remember to do (hey, when you're two, it's pretty cool to see that water swirl ...I guess the novelty wears off, huh?) When I call him a kid, it's really a very kind way of saying "He's being totally irresponsible and I'm sick to death of picking up his crap and listening to him whine" I'm rambling, sorry. OK, so the answer that I think is appropriate here is really that it just depends on the guy and the reason why some of your friends call their husbands "kids" is because of their habits, not necessarily that their DHs want to be nursed to sleep :) Well, maybe they do....

I don't think they want to be mothered. It's just sometimes you know husbands act up and act like a kid and you refer to them as one of the kids. I don't even have kids and sometimes refer to my husband as one of the kids. It's more or less just a saying. I don't think many men want to be mothered.

Its similar to a disorder seen in the military after years of being yelled at and taking orders. Some people, after being discharged from military service, have no idea how to function in civilian life without someone there telling them what to do. I imagine there is a correlation to this and parents who do everything for their children. When the children become adults, they don't know how to function without someone "mothering" them.

No, I don't want my wife to mother me around. But a lot of guys still have a childish explorative side that can be joked about as being another kid.

All men are that way, have you ever been around a man who is sick? Biggest babies in the world! If I wanted another baby I would have one not married one. Go back to momma.

I guess that depends on how their mothers treated them.... Like little Princes or crap? Princes have everything handed to them while the ones who are treated like crap are thought of as useless...so everything is done for them also! Either way it means less responsibility for them ...which is always very enticing!

While mature men like to be taken care of from time to time, most of the time he want's to be by himself. When they say he's like her other kid she's saying he's not really all that mature.

Not all men are like that but some are.
