Average is between 30 1/2" and 31 3/4" (or 77.4-80.9 cm.). This is according to the newest growth charts (see sources section below). The new charts are the most accurate because they were the first ones ever to be based on a population known to be well-nourished; earlier charts were based on babies with an unknown nutritional status at a time when overfeeding was considered a good thing.
