It means to attribute ownership of an idea by a certain person for their saying it first, which to be perfectly frank there's nothing new under the sun and copyright is just a way of preventing monotony of copycats. If an idea is really going to succeed though if there were no copyrights is it would have to be expandable, and be something you were able to do well at, in which case if others learned to do it too and weren't blocked from it due to "rights" exclusivities then they could do it too and the world would have more people producing the things we need instead of a greed filled world of people hoarding their own ideas from everyone else in needless fear.
