Roosters mostly crow to mark thier territory and let other bird know to stay away.
Any noise or light at night will make your rooster crow.
If he's crowing at 3 in the morning, then something is makeing him crow. Any noise, light, passing cars, passing animals, even chirping birds!!
If you want to keep your rooster quite, put him in a place at night where he can hear and see nothing. He will be quieter.

It's not only roosters which do that. If you notice there are tons of other birds which sing in the mornings. These songs are for the establishment of a territory. So, the crowing is the rooster's song and the bird is so commonly found that it is naturally associated with sunrise. :)

In the eyes of animals there are two types of cells one are rods and other are cones, one of them works in the day and other works in the night. In birds only rods are functional and in bats only cones are functional. That is why birds are not able to see in dark and bats can't see in light. In early morning when the light comes Roosters are able to see and starts crowing.

Actually Roosters don't crow at dawn to be noisy or annoying.
They sleep like other animals, they crow because thery are protecting their turf! They are a territorial species.

Ive lived in a farm before, and a crowing chicken is organic, and is actual an truly good alarm clock, in spite of the indisputable fact that it relies upon on the kind of individual you're, in case you want waking up early, or waking up late, in case you pick to evoke late, then a chicken should be very stressful.
