since you are asking this question, probably for your homework, here is how to work it out.
Decide what is being asked.
What is the length of 5/9 of the pole.
Understand the question:
The examiner (or sod for short) wants to know the length of a portion of a pole.
Decide how to do it.
The easiest and the approach most ppl would take would be find out the length of the pole and multiply it by 5/9. That's how everyone seems to have done it above. So lets take another approach.
Lets say the answer you want is "x".
i.e. x = 5/9 * length of pole
Given:
3.6 = 2/5 * length of pole
now combine the two equations (might be easier if you wrote one letter for length of pole) so that you eliminate "length of pole"
There are lots of ways to do this. Lets just divide the top equation by the bottom one (noting that both are not zero)
x/3.6 = 5/9 : 2/5 (note: length of pole / length of pole = 1)
x = 5/9 * 5/2 * 3.6 = 90/18 =5 which is the answer.

We don't know the pole length. Call it x.
2/5 * x = 3.6
5/9 * x = ?
Solve for x in the first equation: x = 3.6 / (2/5) = 3.6 * (5/2) = 9
Then, (5/9) * 9 = 5m

Given: 2/5 of a pole =3.60m Req'd.=the length of 5/9 of the pole
let x be the req'd length
L- total length of the pole
Solution:
Step 1. Solve for L
L=(3.60)/2/5
=(3.60)x5/2
=9 m
Step 2. Solve for x
x =(9)x5/9
= 5m
ans. its 5m long

2/5 length=3.6
therefore total length=3.6/0.4=9
therefore 5/9 length=5/9 * 9
=5 m
hence the answer is 9m

let y be 5/9 of the pole
if you use the quation (2/5)x=3.60m
and solve for x.
x=9meters
Then use (5/9)x=y
y=5
you will have the answer...its all plug and chug

We are not here to do your homework, even if it is not, shouldn't this question be very easy???
Give a man a fish and you will feed him temporarily,
Teach the man to fish and you will feed him forever.
Just 3.6 * 5/2, then find 5/9 of the previous answer!
