For the same reason people think everyone from Northern states are rude. They don't know any better. I must admit, I thought the same thing until I moved to Tennessee. Now I know better.

exposure allot of southern towns state tend to not be as diverse as others and not as expose to different cultures and by the way what is you definition of red neck?

It's not a great stereotype, is it? I guess it happens because of that "good ole Confederate flag" that still waves ONLY in certain southern states.... get rid of that flag in ALL of our states and watch the stereotype eventually disappear...
