A lawyer is an advocate; they advocate for their client in court.

A lawyer while keeping his client's interest in mind is also an officer of the court. While defending his/her clients right he must also abide by the rules of court or judicial system.

An advocate is just a term used to define people who seek the propagation of, for example, their Political, moral, or social beliefs in society and Government.
